Website Notes – to be removed when going live

Training 22 April 2026

  • We went through the website
  • Explained “Website Notes” page => for ongoing comments used by everybody
  • Explained “Help” page => to be updated by everybody
  • Created Website login ( see below ) => to practise and make small changes

Important:

  • The website “seniorhelp.net.au” IS the website we go live with
  • Be careful with what you change
  • Don’t destroy content
  • But feel free to practice ( making a duplicate page if needed )
  • If you make changes, or if you want me to make the changes, mention it in the “Website Notes”

Logo

  • I created a sample logo on the test website
  • Official logo still needs to be designed and approved
  • Enfold ( = Website ) required a logo of max size 340×156 pixels ( WxH )

Roles

  • Nikki and Thom will concentrate on the website
  • Suzy will concentrate on Social Planet

Social Planet

  • Explained the current integration between WordPress and Social Planet ( = “Classes” page )
  • For every Term, there should be an “Activity” of a course defined
  • This allows to flexible “Publish” or “Archive” Activities during the year
  • Important: there will be NO payments done in WordPress, Nor will there be a Calendar overview in WordPress
  • Everything needs to be a scheduled “Activity”, done in Social Planet

Still to do Social Planet ( Suzy – will need help from Social Planet )

  • Setup payment and link bank details inside Social Plant
  • Setup flexible payments per Activity ( Full price, Concession, Other discount, FREE )
  • Investigate: Have credit card details of existing students entered in the backend of Social Planet, so students don’t have to enter the credit Card details when booking online
  • Test booking and payments
  • Test Bookings and Financial Reports coming out of Social Planet

We can go Live when logo is done, changes on website are done and Social Planet is ready

  • Changed SP Account ownership from Anna Reid to Danielle McMinn (had to do this so I could edit financials)
  • I have set up payment and linked our Bank Details in Social Planet
  • Added Nikki Wellington and Jason Xin as a Staff member in SP

GLOBAL FOOTER

I would like this to be in 4 separate sections please, each one a different background colour, running across the full screen/page width. Refer mmmcommunityhouse.org for an example.

I’m still deciding on colour palette for the website, so any colours you choose are fine for now in the Footer, we can update later.

Section 1 of Footer – band/section across full screen/page width (for example refer to mmmcommunityhouse.org). Background colour with WHITE text, centred. This will be our statement about the House (who we are and what we stand for in a nutshell). Can use the text that is there for now and we will edit this a little: Selby House is the welcoming heart of our community – a colourful and lively place where community members can come together to connect, collaborate and learn. We have been proudly serving the local community since 1975.

Section 2 of Footer – band/section across full width of screen, White background with Black Text here.I’d like to keep the content in this section within 4 columns (no lines/borders), from left to right: Column 1 – New SCH Logo;  Column 2 – Address, Phone Numbers/Emails & Social Media Logos/Links at bottom; Column 3 – Opening Hours; Column 4 – ‘Important Info’ with links to commonly needed things (for example refer to mmmcommunityhouse.org).

Section 3 of Footer – another band/section across full screen/page width (for example refer to mmmcommunityhouse.org). Different background colour to Section 1 with WHITE text, centred. This will be our Acknowledgement of Country statement: We acknowledge and thank the Traditional Owners of the land, the Wurundjeri, on which we meet, walk, work and live. We acknowledge the Elders past, present and emerging and the care they have given to this country. We also acknowledge local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander residents of Yarra Ranges for their ongoing contribution to the diverse culture of our community. We need to include the 2 flags here as well, maybe one each side of the text for now? Spacers around logos in their columns, so they don’t meet text.

Section 4 of Footer – another band/section across full screen/page width (for example refer to mmmcommunityhouse.org). Grey or neutral background colour, different to colours used in Sections 1 & 3. This will contain the text for Website / Logo Credits/Links BLACK TEXT (for example refer to mmmcommunityhouse.org).

GLOBAL HEADER

Leave Logo on LHS

Like the way Menu stays as top of page as you scroll.

Change ‘Classes’ to instead read ‘Courses & Events’ and put this in a button on far RHS with different colour background. (For example refer www.japarahouse.com.au)

Change ‘Çhildcare’ to ‘Çhildren & Family Services’ with two drop down links under this – ‘Occasional Care’ and ‘Maternal Health’ (For example refer www.japarahouse.com.au) Down the track if we start up Playgroup again, this will also fall under here. Set up new page for Maternal Health. I’d like something similar to what Japara have on this page, perhaps eventually with some photos of Sue (if she consents?) and the newly refreshed Maternal Health Nurse office/area. Under the ‘About Us’ link in Menu, we need the following as drop down options (same as above for options under Children and Family Services): Facilities & House Tour; History; Governance. Move Facilities page and History page under these dropdown links. Set up new page for Governance here (info to come for this).

Under ‘More’ in the Header Menu, we need drop down links to: Become a Member; Volunteer with Us; Make a Donation; Community Support Resources; Selby Folk Club; SelbyFest; Gallery (with separate pages set up for each of these)

Insert ‘Venue Hire’ as an option in Header Menu (with linked page).

Delete ‘Contact Us’ from Header Menu (this info will be in footer on each page, easy to find there).

Delete ‘Website Notes’ and ‘Help’ from Menu in Header (once we don’t need them anymore of course).

So Header Menu will have following options, left to right:

Courses & Events (as a Button, like Japara, needs to stand out)

Summary so far ( Tuesday 14 April )

The most important pages are up, a few pages have issues with content links, but so has the existing website

Even if the new logo isn’t ready, technically we can go live by the end of the week, to be ready the start of next week

All important content has been included. The structure of the website is optimised, less duplicates, where possible all in one place

DEADLINE – TO DO – New Logo

Selby is designing a new logo

  • I would like to have a copy of the logo in large format by Tuesday 14th April EOB
  • Approval of the logo still can be pending

TO DO – by Selby

  • New logo must be incorporated in
  • New brochures / advertising images ( Canva etc )
  • New stationary / business cards
  • New Facebook / Instagram

The whole “governance” section needs to be reviewed

  • some contend is pdf-ed => ok
  • some content is a link to Canva => unreachable for externals
  • this content needs to be pdf-ed and put on the existing web pages
  • (or emailed to me )

SELBY TO DO – childcare downloadable documents

On the Child care page, most downloadable documents are in Word format

issues:

  • not everybody has Word installed
  • Word documents increasingly will be blocked by anti-virus software

Ideally replace these documents with web forms on the site

  • parents don’t need to print and fill in
  • a copy is kept at the backend of the website

Two websites – create from scratch

Selbyhouse.org.au cannot be “electronically converted” for technical reasons, site is not compatible

The “staging site” is www.seniorhelp.net.au ( one of my available domains )

Both websites can be shown next to each other

The new site www.seniorhelp.net.au is manually build up from scratch, meaning

  • freedom to create a new structure and a new design
  • information from original website is manually collected and restructured into the new webites
  • more condensed, no duplications, easier to find
  • all imaged used are resized and renamed ( following best practice name convention )
  • only content used is brought to the new site

Social Planet – info and Selby TO DO

New website integrates with social Planet Activities

This implies for the new website

  • All courses and activities and payments now organised in social planet
  • No woo commerce (stripe )
  • No event tickets
  • No calendar functionality

Requirements Social Planet

  • In order to be visible on the website, activities in Social Plant MUST have status “Public”
  • All activities in Social Plant MUST have an image
  • Images MUST have the size of 1024 width, 680 height

Term 1, Term 2, Term 3, Term 4

  • In order to be able to “block” bookings inside a running Term as well as be able to start adverting for the upcoming term
  • All possible courses / Activities need to be “quadrupled”, Term 1, 2, 3, 4 etc
  • This gives the flexibility to switch individual Activities “ON” / “OFF” for each term
  • Each term will have its own “streaming connection” to the website

Facilities / Venue Hire in TOP menu

  • This looks so much better
  • We need it for sales
